Set Your Halloween Bucket List Aglow with a Visit to Jack’s Pumpkin Glow in Philadelphia

$
0
0

Disclosure: My family and I were invited to a complimentary visit to Jack’s Pumpkin Glow.  All opinions are my own.

Looking for a way to light up your Halloween fun this year? Pack up the family and head for a ride to Fairmount Park in Philadelphia to experience this year’s Jack’s Pumpkin Glow.

Formerly known as “The Glow”, Jack’s Pumpkin Glow is a wonderland of intricately carved pumpkins all set aglow along a looped path approximately 1/3 of a mile long and grouped into fun landscapes, backdrops and mind blowing structures made up of groups of pumpkins stacked together and carved to form larger than life creations.

The details are absolutely amazing.  Carvings range from basic Jack o’ lantern faces to highly detailed characters, animals, historical figures, sports teams and famous faces.

There are over 6000 pumpkins to take in at your leisure and you will likely find yourself snapping photos like the paparazzi as you try to capture all of the creativity and innovation.

Jack’s Pumpkin Glow experience is definitely family friendly.  We did not find it to be scary or overwhelming for the children that were there when we visited.  It is stroller accessible and all of the carved pumpkins and displays are roped off for safety.

It took my family and I about 30 minutes to make our way through the experience.  You walk through at your leisure and may take more or less time depending on how long you spend viewing each area.

If this experience doesn’t inspire you to go home and carve pumpkins, I am not sure what will! Lucky for you, there is a small pumpkin patch at the end of the experience where you can pick out pumpkins and purchase them to take home and put your very own creativity to work!  Master carvers are also on-hand demonstrating their work under a tent for visitors to see and get some inspiration for their own pumpkin carving at home.

At the beginning and end of the experience you will also find food and beverage options such as hot chocolate and apple cider as well as a beer garden with picnic tables to sit and relax. Portable restrooms are also available for guests in this area.

Jack’s Pumpkin Glow, located in West Fairmount Park (5201 Parkside Avenue) adjacent to the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, runs Thursday through Sunday nights October 5 through November 3. Tickets start at just $16.99 for children and $22.99 for adults. Advance tickets are required and are timed (30 minute intervals) to keep the crowds under control. Tickets can be purchased online HERE. Don’t pay full price for tickets! Be sure to take advantage of our special code DIVAGLOW to save 20% off tickets (excluding anytime tickets). Onsite parking is $5. I suggest getting there a few minutes early! The parking area gets busy and despite being well directed, it may add a few extra minutes. Be sure to give a few minutes for the walk from the parking lot to the beginning of the experience as well.

Do you have a Fall/Halloween Bucket List? I highly recommend adding this one to your list if so! What a fun new tradition to start with your family!

The Colonial Plantation, one of the most haunted properties in Delaware County, invites you to an evening of strange sounds, squeaky doors, and ghostly stories. Relive 300 years of the area’s most mysterious, scary and true tales of terror. Start by following the torch lit path and discover the strange and inexplicable ways that colonists treated their dead. Tour the wagon barn and farmhouse to hear a story in each room that will tell of bizarre events from times long past.
For past participants of Ghost Tours, please note that we change some stories every year, so you’ll have a new experience every time! Our stories are researched by our staff, are local on the Delaware County area, and are absolutely spine-chilling!
Admission: Admission is $10.00 for members of the Plantation, and $13.00 for non-members. Due to the graphic nature of some stories, we recommend this event for ages 10+. Tours last approximately 1.5 hours and start every 30 minutes. 31. Holiday Magic at Brandywine (Oct. 31-Jan. 10) at Brandywine River Museum The wonder of the holiday season starts early at the Brandywine River Museum of Art this year! Beginning on October 31, 2020, visitors can enjoy “Holiday Magic at Brandywine” with the opening of the Brandywine Railroad—a holiday favorite since 1972. On view through January 10, 2021, this year’s seasonal offerings will also include the return of artist and composer Ann Wyeth McCoy’s dollhouse, which features six rooms filled with three-dozen dolls and hundreds of miniature objects that will delight visitors of all ages.
While slightly modified this year to provide a safe and socially distant experience, the Brandywine Railroad display will still have plenty of model trains, miniature details and the engaging elements that everyone loves—including interactive components operated by hands-free foot pedals. The iconic O-gauge display will feature trains running on a thousand feet of track through a small village, a drive-in movie theater and even a carnival. NEW THIS YEAR: the Brandywine will introduce two model train sets with layouts once owned by Nicky and Jamie Wyeth—sons of the renowned American artist, Andrew Wyeth.
Beginning November 27, the Brandywine’s whimsical Critter ornaments—handcrafted by volunteers at home this year—will be back to decorate the towering trees in the Museum’s three-story atrium. Thousands of these unique treasures will be available for purchase during the Annual Holiday Critter Sale from December 2-6, 2020. Details, times and ticket info HERE and HERE
